A STUDY by a Mumbai based think-tank, Strategic Foresight Group (SFG), has confirmed what many long feared: Sri Lanka has emerged as the most militarised society in South Asia. More worrying is the conclusion that it could get worse unless urgent action is initiated towards ending the 23-year-old conflict. The study, "Cost of conflict in Sri Lanka," says the island nation has 8000 military personnel per one million population. Even Pakistan — of which it is said that while every country has an army the Pakistan army has a country — has only half that number, 4000 military personnel per one million population. The figures for other South Asian countries are: Nepal 2700; India 1300; and Bangladesh 1000. In terms of military expenditure as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP), too, Sri Lanka spent the most — 4.1 per cent. In the case of Pakistan it is 3.5 per cent; 2.5 per cent in the case of India and Nepal; and 1.5 per cent in the case of Bangladesh. The figure cannot be expected to be an accurate representation of the actualities as there is very little information and knowledge about the military expenditure by the LTTE. International 'militarisation' in Syria growing closer, warns US official The international community may be forced to 'militarise' the crisis in Syria unless president Bashar al-Assad stops the onsalught on his people, a senior US official warned on Wednesday. The official from the State Department told The Daily Telegraph that while the White House wants to exhaust all its diplomatic options, the debate in Washington has shifted away from diplomacy and towards more robust action since Russia and China blocked a United Nations resolution condemning Syria. The Pentagon's Central Command has begun a preliminary internal review of US military capabilities in the region, which one senior official called a "scoping exercise" that would provide options for the president if and when they were requested. The White House said it was talking to allies about holding a "Friends of Syria" meeting in the near future and was considering delivering humanitarian aid to affected areas in the country. "We are, of course, looking at humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, and we have for some time. We're consulting with our international partners, and we anticipate this being one of the focuses of the discussions that we'll have," said Jay Carney, the White House press secretary. The youngsters in the uk are becoming unruly and out of control, but instead of sending them to boot camp we should be looking at what the root of the problem is. In my opinion, children growing up today are being left to fend for themselves in too many cases. Womens-lib meant that the family unit is not what it used to be. Now before people call me sexist, let me explain - as women went out to work, the children were being entrusted to state nurseries etc where they are not taugh the common values that they would have at home. This is just the NWO making sure that they have a steady stream of cannon fodder for all the illegal wars they fight.

New Delhi, February 17 (ANI): India's Defence Minister AK Antony on Wednesday said that China's growing military strength is a matter of concern, and there is a need for the armed forces to modernize their defence infrastructure. Antony, who was attending the 13th Asian Security Conference in New Delhi, told mediapersons that India, however, is not unduly worried over China's militarisation. Antony also said India and China need to cooperate on common issues such as climate change and trade.
